Closter is a small but modern town in Bergen County. It is just one of the towns that make up “The Northern Valley”. It is nestled in between Alpine, Demarest, and Norwood and houses approximately 8500 residents. Closter is approximately 10 miles from the George Washington Bridge. Niche for school rankings. Closter has its own Elementary school (Hillside elementary school), its own middle school (Tenakill Middle School), and shares a high school (Northern Valley Demarest Regional High School) with Haworth and Demarest.
Closter is also known for its modern new downtown. The New Closter Plaza has wonderful shops such as Whole Foods, Lululemon, Starbucks, Orange Theory, Target, A French Brasserie, Petco, Lavelli Salon, Mixology, Shoe inn, Cycle bar, Orange Theory, Gary’s Wine and Market, Bareburger, Super Juice Nation and more. The north side of Closter’s downtown features Hometown Hardware, Goldberg’s Bagels, CVS, Patisserie Florentine, Isabella’s fine foods, and much more. There is also a nice selection of restaurants in the town.
Closter is approximately less than two miles from the Palisades Interstate Parkway, approximately 10 miles from the George Washington Bridge, approximately 11 miles from the Governor Mario Cuomo Bridge, and less than five miles from the Rockland County, n.Y., border. It is surrounded by Alpine to the east, Haworth and Demarest to the south, and Norwood to the north.
Because of the borough’s long history, the homes are varied and include a mix of midcentury, 1990, and 2000s colonials, splitlevels, ranches, and lots of newer larger luxury homes built in recent decades. Due to the demand to live in Closter, there has been a large boom in new construction over the last 10 years.
A few years ago, a new owner renovated the old Closter Plaza, a 16-acre property, attracting national retailers like Whole Foods, Target, home goods.,lululemon, Starbucks. Blue Mercury as well as others such as Cycle Bar, Orange Theory, some wonderful Restaurants clothing, and other stores. A block down from the plaza offers a second pedestrian-friendly part of Closter’s Downtown housing a bagel store, CVS, hardware store, nail salons, dry cleaners, an ice cream shop, and other convenient shops. The downtown transformation has increased shopping activity and injected new life into this sophisticated yet charming borough Of approximately 8,500 in northeastern Bergen County.
Closter has become the hub for the northern valley and the other surrounding towns. Besides seeing a higher-end shopping Center like the Closter Plaza, you may ask what else does Closter have to offer?’ the answer, residents would say is plenty. Closter offers leafy green neighborhoods, highly regarded public schools, a pedestrian-friendly downtown, farms, parks, a Nature center, plenty of pre schools, camps, indoor/outdoor recreational facilities for children as well as adults and a history That stretches way back.
Closter has two schools: Hillside Elementary which is pre-kindergarten to fourth grade, and Tenakill Middle School, where Students in grades five through eight go. Closter, Demarest, and haworth students come together starting in ninth grade to attend Northern Valley Demarest High School in Demarest,
